Playa  Platanares Horse Back Riding

For our guests interested on a horseback riding tour, our naturalist guides will lead you on visit to the Platanares Wildlife Refuge. You will ride along deserted beaches or ride among lush, green secondary forest with sweeping views of the Golfo Dulce and hidden deep in the verdant mangroves.

Throughout the tour your guide will point out items of interest including a variety of bird and animal species as well as numerous plants and bushes. Hummingbirds, vultures, hawks, scarlet macaws, and monkeys are common sightings as are colorful tree tops and flowers.  During certain times of the year, orchids in bloom are a common sight. The horses are quiet and trained specifically for this type of activity. Whether you’re an expert rider or novice, our horseback riding tour is a fantastic way to spend a few hours exploring the area.

Rio Nuevo horse back riding

This is more of a rainforest experience where you climb on to the back of a gentle horse for a wonderful trip into the higher elevations in the area. Your guide and horse will take you into sections of the primary and secondary forests that include crossing a few rivers. You will be rewarded with wonderful views of the Golfo Dulce. This tour is an excellent opportunity for bird watching and to get close to timid wildlife. At the end of your ride you will enjoy resting in the hammocks on the deck looking out over the grounds and a hot lunch that is prepared at the Rio Nuevo Lodge If you want a different perspective, we can arrange you an overnight experience at the tent camp.
